Dear ,

You will be aware that a major flash flood struck northern Nepal on 26 August, destroying homes, roads, bridges and vital infrastructure. If you have already donated, thank you on behalf of those affected.

The flood was reportedly triggered by a glacier collapse near the Nepal-Tibet border, sending mud, ice and rock into the Bhote Koshi River. With over a thousand people dead, many more still missing and tens of thousands displaced, the recovery has only just begun.

A ShelterBox team is now in Kathmandu, meeting with local Rotary members and other potential partners to understand the impact of the floods and identify priority needs. We are also exploring how we could work together to support both immediate humanitarian needs and early recovery efforts.

Response Team member Sonja Hughes said, "This is a catastrophic event. Entire villages and settlements have been swept away, and people have lost everything. Some major challenges right now include parts of the affected area remaining inaccessible because bridges and roads have been washed away."
